I would argue that the vast majority of non-commercial vehicles are automatic in NA.
Whether we like it or not manual transmission in North America is old tech, hence the rise of paddle shifters on automotive vehicles

I think I used the paddle shifter on my then-newer car a few times the first week or so of ownership... that was ~5years ago. Kinda forgot about it actually. Is it actually practical to use the paddle shifter on your steering wheel? Who actually uses them?
