I feel bad for Darryl (not TOO bad, mind you, with $8M in his pocket)...for the legacy and the hope that many of us had with the "unfinished business" comment. Being always a "glass half-full" person and having worked with many staff over the years I always seem to hope that a person and their position is savable, remediable and ultimately successful. And indeed, in my experience, some have been.
As a now-mostly-retired person I have returned TWICE to my last organization to rescue them from people hired to replace me that proved to be...not good. One much younger, one just somewhat younger. I guess there's a piece of me that hoped DS would be that "rescuer" for the Flames and there IS another part of me that would have hoped that another chance would have been provided to him to correct his attitude and manner...but maybe it had just gone too sour everywhere.
There is yet another piece of me that also feels bad for the players, because I'm going to bet on one thing: if they don't perform next year - and perform WAY above expectations - fans both on CP and casual fans, and the media in Calgary are going to be ALL over them like a fly on poop. With good reason.
Popcorn in hand, I await a Stanley Cup to cheer about.
