Really loved the new season of Schmigadoon (aka Schmicago). While the first season was heavy into the golden-age musicals of the 50s and 60s, this season was all about the 1970s era musicals, which made it a much weirder mashup and more musically interesting. Highlight of the season for me was this number that combines plotlines and characters from Little Orphan Annie and Sweeney Todd, with a solution to their mutual dilemmas that Jonathan Swift would approve of.
Other season highlights were the addition of Tituss Burgess as a perfectly cast narrator with a particularly great Jesus Christ Superstar piece, and Jane Krakowski in an over-the-top courtroom lawyer scene featuring plenty of trapeze work. My parents listened to a lot of musicals when I was young so I'm catching some but definitely not all of the references they're dropping, but my wife, who generally dislikes live theatre and musicals found this season much more accessible than the first.
