No scientific evidence but it does seem that teams that promote their AHL head coaches do better than situations where teams promote existing assistants. Keefe, Cooper and even Woodcroft are promoted AHL head coaches that have done pretty well and Cassidy was promoted from the Providence Bruins although technically he was promoted to assistant but took over the head coaching duties during his first season as Bruins assistant. Seems to be the better way to go.
