There's always going to be circumstances where teams will take a flyer on a bad deal such as how the Flames traded for Lucic. Huberdeau has been over a point a game in four of his last five seasons. He's absolutely tradeable as far worse players on terrible contracts have been moved.
Yup even with one of the worst seasons of his career last year Jonathan Huberdeau is still 10th in NHL scoring over the last 5 seasons.

1) McDavid
2) Draisaitl
3) Mackinnon
4) Panarin
5) Marner
6) Pastrnak
7) Matthews
8) Kane
9) Marchand
10) Huberdeau
11) Kucherov
12) Gaudreau
13) Tkachuk
14) Rantanen
15) Stamkos

And again that is with a 55 point season last year dragging that down. I actually would bet some savvy GM will probably try to acquire Huberdeau this offseason while trying to send money back to us.

It's actually a bit of an interesting thought...if Huberdeau wasn't re-signed and was going to UFA this season what would he be worth? My guess is he's still getting $9.5M on the open market even with the bad season. Somebody would look at the body of work and would take the chance that it was just an issue with coaching post trade and would look at the bigger picture.
