Since both teams were in the same division, they had equal games vs. all the teams.
I recall reading once (although my memory is not always that great anymore LOL) that the team with the better goal differential wins a series more often than the team with the better record (although in the majority of series, one team is better in both).
Although I actually think that was in baseball. But the difference wasn't particularly large.
But I believe its based on the theory that goal differential is a better stat in determining how good a team is vs. actual record.
At the end of the day, Vegas and the Oilers look like pretty much even teams. I put Vegas as the favourite due to having home ice advantage. The extra 2 points they got is pretty meaningless, other than it gave them home ice advantage, which is pretty meaningful.
