Absolutely he is likely to be better. He pretty much has to be.
But i think today, posters understand why Tkachuk at 8-years and his age had such exceptional value. And why guys like Weegar and Huberdeau, although good players, had lesser value. Becuase each would require a contract which would cover some non-prime years. The fact that Tkachuk became such a great player only underscores that value. His contract actually today has positive value.
My point is simply that today his 8-year contract at $84MM has negative value. it's simply too much of a gamble for any team to take.
In fact, even if he had 70 points this year, I question how many teams would want to fit him in without moving some unwanted salary out as part of he deal. That's simply the nature of cap these days.
