That said, it would be silly not to see the glass-half-full possibility that this team could be a real contender under a different coach. It's a good team on paper and it's just as possible the problem in the room was the coaching rather than the Huby/Kadri. If that's the case and we see Huby's/Kadri's game take-off, markstrom return to form, Kylington back...and then add to that Wolf, coronato and Pelletier come in and outperform, there's no reason this couldn't be a top team in NHL next year.

But it’s a huge gamble if it doesn’t occur, as you end up seeing a large number of UFA’s leave at the end of the year, with a few older ones signing long term above market deals for non-prime years. As the Flames won’t be able to afford them all.
