I have always been a huge Sutter fan since the early 2000s. But the more I reflect on the past few days, the more I say good riddance. I think when you have literally the entire organization complaining about him, this is more than a toxic environment. It is straight up dog #### and frankly makes me wonder if there was borderline verbal abuse going on. Can't recall the last time I have seen an organization in the NHL rally around a coach's firing since the days of of Iron Mike decades ago. I am willing to bet there is lot that is being hushed and not being said out loud because of how it would make the organization look. Just a hunch I have, that the reasons for Sutter being fired go far beyond player utilization and weird media comments. I hope I am wrong, but something rubs me the wrong way about how he goes about business and constantly gets away with it because "results". I think if the truth came to light, a lot of us would be disgusted
Furthermore I would love to be a fly on the wall and actually verbally hear how he speaks to players, staff, and those around him in the organization that feel he creates all this toxicity. It's great to hear that he is a good host at charity events, speaks well to youth athletic teams and is in general great with fans. But jerks like him hide in plain sight all the time. I had a former boss who was an abusive POS to those of us in our group, but boy oh boy was he great with clients and out in public. My neighbor is super nice to me when I chat with him, but I know for a fact he is a jackass to his family when he thinks I'm not obesrving. We all know people like that. I have always thought of Sutter to be cut from that same cloth.
Thanks for the memories. But I hope the organization gets the next hire right, whomever that might be. Flames have a good opportunity to wipe the slate clean in a lot of areas, and players who are clearly going to be motivated for next season. I'm a lot more optimistic for next season after recent events.
