Wasn't Conroy also just in Switzerland doing some scouting?
If they were to name Conroy as GM, they would likely let him wrap up his other tasks that were already planned, and maybe let him take a vacation with his family or something before he becomes GM 24/7 with a huge workload ahead.
There just isn't a huge rush, especially if they are hiring from within the organization. I think if you were hiring from outside the organization, there would be more urgency to get it done sooner because you would want to get the new guy up to speed on everything. The transition for one of the Flames current AGMs would probably be a lot easier.
Of course, if they wanted to interview someone on a team still playing, they would need to wait, which isn't ideal if that team goes on a long run.
