Promote Conroy to GM - positive personality, good relationships inside/outside of the org, seemingly a more progressive thinker re:roster construction and player evaluation.

Try to get some value for players that are unlikely to provide better future performance (especially relative to pay) than current production/perceived value. Specifically, Toffoli, Zadorov. Explore Hanifin trade in hockey deal, ideally for someone with history of above-expected finishing ability (i.e. Debrincat) or cost-effective relative to production (i.e. Konecny, who also has ties to the area). I like Coleman but if you can free up his 5 million you should explore that as well.

Target teams at draft that could be looking to retool (based on cycle or organizational philosophy). Since teams will be hesitant to give up early picks in this draft even for good players, focus on teams with multiple and/or later 1st rd picks to try to acquire a second first rounder.

Try to draft two of Barlow/Leonard/Wood/Cristall/Perrault/Heidt/Sandin-Pellika/Molendyk (depending on where they end up picking and who could be available between mid-teens and late 20s - would love to grab Wood and ASP but both seem to be risers. Would personally love the org to take a chance on Cristall).

Hire coach (Brunette? Love?) who can maximize a Kings-esque line-up with plenty of young, quick, hungry players that excel at transition offence but without any really elite offensive pieces other than perhaps a rejuvenated Huberdeau…now, with that said, Huberdeau hasn’t tended to be a true 5 on 5 driver. So fire Muller into the sun and get someone who knows how to run a modern powerplay (perhaps a behind the net-focussed 2-1-2?) that emphasizes seam creation through movement, one-timers and royal road passes. Get Huberdeau feasting in 5 on 4 situations again for goodness sake.

Decide if you’re going to be able to/want to retain Lindholm/Hanifin.

Give Backlund the C already.

Possible lineup with Lindy, Stecher re-signed but Hanifin, Toffoli, Vladar traded (separate deals) for Konecny and prospects/futures:

Huberdeau-Lindholm-Coronato
Pelletier-Kadri-Konecny
Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman
Ruzicka-Dube-Deuhr

Weegar-Andersson
Kylington-Tanev
Zadorov-Stecher

Wolf
Markstrom

Clear that the money doesn’t work to re-sign Lindholm AND make high-value additions through trade without further moves that subtract at least 2 of Kadri/Mang/Backlund/Coleman/Zadorov/Markstrom. D will also have some people squinting minus Hanifin but not sure paying that particular player 7-8 million a year is the best call (although you could certainly find worse investments…last year's version of Kadri, cough).

Tough spot for the new guy, but will be forced to rely on youth and internal development over the next while which I am personally somewhat excited for now that Darryl is gone. Will have to get creative if you want to add for a year or two until the cap goes up.
