I'm not an expert on C-11 by any means, but is the biggest criticism seriously that CanCon rules for streamers and YouTube are going to be a back door for the government to censor speech? Is that any more plausible than a government doing the same with CanCon rules that have existed for decades?
My understanding is the implementation will be relatively similar to existing CanCon rules where there's a clearly defined standard that prioritizes productions based on various criteria that anyone can meet, regardless of the content of their work. Has there ever been a case where the CRTC has arbitrarily penalized productions that otherwise meet CanCon standards? If not, why would it happen now?
