I wasn't aware that cap wouldn't fit. It has to be really close with Vladar out for a less expensive Wolf. Also, Stecher is nice and Stone is faithful, but both are optional with a player like Gilbert.
I'd also hope that players like Lindholm would choose to stick around now that Sutter is gone. A lot can happen in the off season and I'd bet that there is a renewed hope amongst the team right now. Maybe Lindholm wanted to play with his best friend, but just hated coming to work with a boss like Sutter. I think Backlund re-signs with the Flames if the team is playing great hockey.
If anyone shows no interest in re-signing with the Flames, trade them and open up a spot for some youth.
I'm sure this team would "fit" underneath the cap with some creative maneuvering and obvious cap circumvention that the other teams in the NHL are never guilty of.
