It would have been an easy way to give the Oilers a huge advantage and it wouldn't have been questioned since both were obvious penalties.

Because it wasn't really a chop. He just stried to pin the stick and it came off at the blade. A stick breaking isn't an automatic penalty, despite what some people think.
