I would worry if there was a serious enough problem with the engine that driving it exacerbated it to where it caused a problem. Then you need to prove to the rental agency it wasn’t your fault and also why you continued to drive it with the “check engine” light on, meanwhile they put some exorbitant charge on your credit card.
