The infrastructure included in the cost may make the number look higher, but it is related and is essential.
It is nice to have the 6th Street underpass included, as that was very much needed to support the green line station and the event centre, and that isn’t a cheap project.
There’s $238 million set aside for transportation and area upgrades, and the green line is already funded elsewhere. That’s a lot of upgrading to the area, and is money the city would be spending whether it was included in todays announced number or not.
Altogether, I’m not sure if the city is putting more money combined towards this whole area than under the previous deal, even though it’s easy to read it that they are paying a lot more.
Before it was $300 million plus undetermined costs for underpass and further upgrades to rivers district (which could have been $200 million or more). Now it’s $500 million but includes those things.
Initial observations only, may not be completely correct.
