Default Insomnia - anyone else suffer from it?

Its one of the most frustrating disorders to deal with. On the weekends (no matter how tired I am) I wont be able to fall asleep till 1 or 2am, sometimes 3 or 4! Then come Sunday night and I wont fall asleep till 3am, go to work with 3hrs sleep, falling asleep at my desk by the time I get to work. Tues comes around and Im already half asleep and have no energy as I have now pulled back to back nights with 2-3hrs sleep a night (if that!), sometimes Ive gone to work with 45mins sleep.

When thurs rolls around, Im completely baked by now, no energy and falling asleep at work left right and center, starting to see imaginery things, hearing voices in my head, and can barely walk properly. Just last week I just about fell down the escalator as I was getting on it. Ive already fallen asleep at work couple times for a few hours here and there. I get home Thurs and fri night and Im wide awake till late in the morning and oversleep 10-12hrs on the weekend. For some reason I cant nap when I get home, because it just worsens my sleep habits. I sleep for say 1-2hrs when I get home, and come 9 or 10pm, I will be wide awake and wont be able to sleep till 4 or 5am. By that time, its pointless even sleeping since I have to get up 4am anyways.

So the Q is, what sleeping pills or teas can I take that wont have any neg. long term side effects? but will kick in quickly.
