There's a huge difference in the amount of daylight hours in winter between Tampa (about 28° N) and Calgary (about 51° N). Tampa has about 10 hours, 22 minutes of daylight on the winter solstice; Calgary has less than that
every single day from late October to late February, and bottoms out at about 7 hours, 54 minutes on the solstice.
