If you compare ten states that are most similar in population, culture, and demographics to the ten provinces you get 6 mass shootings this year:
Bc= Oregon: 0
Alberta =Utah: 1
Sask/manitoba=Dakotas: 0
Ontario =New York state: 5
Quebec=Mass: 0
Atlantic=Maine, vt, NH, RI: 0
Maybe you can quibble over the comparisons, but i think it's pretty fair. Obviously quebec is difficult to compare.
Yes some of these states have strict gun control, I think Mass and NY, but then new york also has the most shootings so...

OK, lets forget the mass shootings for a moment and just look at gun deaths overall and use your comparison states, it's hard to find data on one site but sniffing around I think I'm close
Bc
(7)= Oregon:
(191)
Alberta
(9) =Utah:
(123)
Sask/manitoba
(12)=Dakotas:
(74)
Ontario
(19) =New York state:
(316)
Quebec
(5)=Mass:
(69)
Atlantic
(4)=Maine, vt, NH, RI:
(127)
And your wrong about NY, it actually has the 4th lowest gun deaths per capita in the US, #1 is "you didn't guess it"... Massachusetts.
The highest gun deaths per capita are Mississippi and Louisiana, and Texas leads the way by a country mile in overall deaths
Oh, and keep in mind 80% of Canadian gun deaths are gang related and from illegal gun smuggled into Canada from our wonderful neighbour
