Brad failed to keep the core of homegrown talent he and his predecessors drafted and lost too many players for nothing and relied on free agency in recent years to plug holes and handed out several long term deals to 30+ UFA’s. His plan was to build around Gaudreau and Tkachuk but they chose not to be here. He made reactionary moves that looked awesome on the surface but did not translate well in year 1. Brad not coming back likely is how it should be based on how the last few years went.
One thing I have thought is when the Tkachuk trsde went down Brad perhaps favored the rebuild route but was pushed by ownership to make the win now move and also ensure those guys were signed. If he wasn’t fully on board with that I wonder if that played a big part in moving on since the team is very much tied to Huberdeau/Weegar/Kadri moving forward.

Well, let’s just see how the next guy does.
