Also, the Flames aren't the only team looking for a new GM. Pittsburgh is going to have their first pick of the litter. There could be other teams as well depending how the first round of the playoffs shakes out.
I am not 100% convinced that keeping Sutter will be a requirement for a new GM though. I just don't think the Flames need to make that decision before hiring a new GM. I think a lot of fans and media are jumping to conclusions about Sutter being bullet proof. Even if the speculation is true that Edwards wouldn't allow Treliving to make a change, that could speak more to the lack of confidence in Treliving at this point to make coaching decisions. A new GM could be given a clean slate and any external GM hire would likely ask for that.
