I was invited by one of my Kings fan friends to Game 3, who knows that I am a Flames fan and thus would hate the Oilers. I thought about wearing my Calgary jersey but ended up wearing a nondescript outfit. Saw people with Nashville, Minnesota, Las Vegas, and Washington jerseys there, which was kind of odd.
A couple things I noticed that are harder for me to notice on TV, Oilers put 4 players on the strong side of the ice for the PP. Then isolate McDavid on the other side. They scored twice using that tactic, and then the Kings changed their PK strategy in the 3rd. Danault got his stick in the lane preventing the cross ice passes twice. Awesome.
Then, when the Kings dumped it in and changed at 5v5, they set up a 1-3-1 in the neutral zone and sent nobody in forechecking. It confused the Oilers so much. Kings fans were booing when the Oiler player was just standing around, but I said they ought to be cheering because it's hilarious.
I was in that corner where the 'controversial' play was. I didn't know what they were looking at because they didn't put a replay on in there. I thought it might have been goaltender interference. The people in front of us actually left because they must have thought it was over. It was almost like we got to watch the Oilers lose twice when they said it was a goal. Stayed for the three stars, then we listened to CHED all the way home and got a kick out of that. And their mobile home commercials.
Saw someone in a Klim Kostin jersey in the parking elevator on the way out, and heard them speaking Russian. Turned out to be Kostin's sister, who was very polite. Nothing like hearing "Oilers Suck" chants around the arena when everyone was getting out!
