Like Edwards, neither are dumb because they could care less about winning the cup or even trying to win it (though either would obviously love to for personal and business reasons), they are just out to maximize profits. Edward does it by making sure the Flames have just passable teams so when it comes to season renewal tickets there’s still “next year” and they don’t have to worry about the dreaded “R” word.
Neither of these guys are dumb for using their hockey teams to make money. If anything it’s the fans for supporting them.

By not building a proper contender, they are losing money hand over first. The amount of money Edwards has lost by not building an arena 10 years ago is staggering. These are not good business decisions. He is a dumb dumb in hockey business and hockey competitiveness.
