Katz completed humiliated Edmonton and us though. His goal wasn’t to have a successful product on the ice, it was to get his real estate development with the ice district and then to party with the 80 oilers legends.
Like Edwards, neither are dumb because they could care less about winning the cup or even trying to win it (though either would obviously love to for personal and business reasons), they are just out to maximize profits. Edward does it by making sure the Flames have just passable teams so when it comes to season renewal tickets there’s still “next year” and they don’t have to worry about the dreaded “R” word.
Neither of these guys are dumb for using their hockey teams to make money. If anything it’s the fans for supporting them.
