On After Burner, Rhett mentioned that we don't really know how other teams operate. There isn't a template job description for AGMs that every team has to use, and on some teams, the AGMs have a lot of managing power and get paid salaries on par with GMs. Some AGMs are probably happy in their roles and aren't going to accept just any GM position because they want the spotlight or additional responsibility. There is also a good chance that a team like Carolina isn't going to give permission to another team to talk to Tulsky if he is under contract for a few more years and they consider him a critical part of their management team. Waddell also isn't getting any younger and Carolina could be happy to pay Tulsky on par with a GM if they see him as the heir.

Personally, I like the idea of a GM being an ex-player who understands the locker room and chemistry, with the main AGM being more of the academic and math guy. There are probably examples of both working or not working however.

It kind of sucks that the Pens are looking for a GM at the same time though, because the best candidates will likely want to go there first. It reminds me of when we were looking for a coach at the same time at least 3 other teams were, and once all the best candidates signed, we scooped up Gulutzan.
