Disappointed to see Treliving leaving. It wasn't always perfect, but he assembled some damn good teams with some shrewd moves and if not for some bad playoff performances by key players, we'd probably have a happier fan base. Tough to fault him for that.
Some not great signings, but that happens to the best of them. Coaching should have been solidified with a winning coach earlier IMO. Give us 3 years of Sutter instead of Peters and I think, again, Flames fans would be a lot happier with everyone involved (including Sutter, who I was a big fan of when he came back, now it's tired). The GM position is one of taking chances and I'd say he beat the odds more often than not. I think you need stability there, and in coaching, to breed a sense of consistency and "team identity", and the carousel of the early years of Johnny/Monny was not ideal. I think Treliving proved quickly to be a good voice and face for the organization that gave them a level of respect that felt like it hadn't been around the team in a while. I would have personally like to see him stick longer ala Poile.
I don't think there are that many better options. I certainly don't think Maloney is it. Or heaven forbid, Sutter. Would prefer someone more forward thinking, which I do believe Brad was, for the most part. We'll see what happens.
Thanks for some good years and a strong effort, Brad.
