I think that it too generalized.
I think MLSE is actually good ownership and does everything they can to help the Leafs win. They charge a lot but I don't think ownership gets in the way a lot. The Raptors, Toronto FC, and Marlies have all won championships too, so overall MLSE has had a lot of success.
Same thing with Molson family in Montreal. Don't think they are "bad" owners. Think they tried to extend a window with Price in net, it failed (although they made the finals, and conference finals in the last 10 years), and now they have committed to a rebuild.
Ottawa had poor ownership...but for different reasons than most Canadian teams. He just didn't have the money or the market to be a success.
Winnipeg ownership seems okay. If anything they've had the opposite problem of other Canadian teams and have been too patient to push the chips in to go for a run.
Really it's Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver.
For Edmonton and Calgary I think a bit part of it is that Katz and Edwards almost have this "Hero Complex" that they should be more respected because they saved the teams during hard times and now the city and fanbase almost owes them something.
For Vancouver the Aquilini family just seem to be bad people.
