I actually don’t know if we are left of Center. I think we are far to the left of the conservatives so the Liberals moved left to protect the flank of the next most competitive party. The liberals of Chrétien and Martin and the Ignatieff liberals were all Center right versions.
So Canada as a large group of voters that would be comfortable voting for the Center right version and Center left version of the liberals. A competent CPC would force the liberals back toward the right.
I think the biggest factor (and Yoho can ask me for a source that he appears not interested in ever seeing) is that post secondary education is a liberalizing experience and journalists have post secondary education therefore the general population of journalists will always be more liberal than the general population of Canada.
Then when you have the corporate papers modelling a Center right editorial viewpoint they will scoop up or be competing for the reporters with more right idealogies. Since comparable outlets on the left don’t have similar funding the CBCs staff becomes naturally more left.
