And at the risk of triggering all the whiner fans that expect ownership to shell out constantly for everything, it's clearly the city's fault that we don't have a new building. A new mayor came in and scuttled a done deal with a bunch of ridiculous add-ons for solar panels and bike parking. Most of you don't even see the need for a new building, apparently, so you should just disagree with the premise of me calling ####ty instead of asking who's fault it is.

So in conclusion a lot of you seem to want an owner that will build a new building, spend to the cap, rebuild whenever you want, AND (the biggest ask of all) charge you at cost for butter. In a small Canadian market. You're delusional. And pointing out the reality is apparently stanning for billionaires.
Counter point. I would think the best time to be an NHL owner is when you’re on the cusp of getting the public writ large to saddle up half of the money required to improve your franchise valuation to the tunes of hundreds of millions of dollars. If you “over spend” by $10-20mm per year to keep the team competing and relevant that would be money well spent when franchise value skyrockets after the city agrees to half of your $700mm project and your franchise valuation doubles to $1.4-1.5B.

He’s doing fine, about to have a major asset paid for by tax payers that will net him hundreds of millions of dollars in wealth. He should stick with it, then sell after the building. He should also stfu and get the #### out of the way of the hockey personnel that make the decisions. He won’t, but he should, because he isn’t as smart as them in hockey.

Lastly, CNRL sucks and has put hundreds of good quality juniors out of business and thousands of people out of work. It is a lousy environment to work for and I have literally never heard anyone who works there be positive about it. That’s a full on reflection of its owner who like Sec214 mentioned is exclusively and solely interested in money. To believe otherwise it’s what is actually delusional.
