It shouldn't fall to Dominion to hold Fox accountable. Basically any American citizen could sue them for the same thing. The federal government itself should be the one suing them for societal damages. But of course that would be politicized.
Really was hoping Dominion would tell them to shove it, but the original amount basically made it so Fox had to pay them a ridiculous sum of money to avoid this, it's telling that they were willing to shell out that much just to avoid On-Air apologies. My guess is that point is what kept the settlement price rising.

Yeah, i suspect there were issues with the 1.6 billion number and proving that amount of loss. Really, any lawsuit like this is going to over-inflate that number.
While there would likely have been some punitive damages, the court can only compensate Dominion for Dominion's actual losses. Not to mention, the likelihood that these overt lies actually resulted in losses to the company would be interesting. I suspect most investors/clients/vendors knew how crazy the allegations were and it didn't rate in their overall performance as much as claimed
This seems like an overpay to have Fox save face. Dominion probably taking this as a huge win
