Treliving was diligent and worked hard to be in every trade conversation, and did a lot of other good things. He was a smart manager and I was hoping he'd stay.
On the other hand, this team was a mess when they had to fire Ward, and I was surprised they kept Treliving when they hired Darryl. It seemed obvious that Sutter was not his hire. Treliving had lost some serious credibility by that time.
Ironically, Sutter ends up making Treliving look like a genius as of April, 2022.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Treliving was pressured by ownership towards Kadri, Huberdeau and Weegar instead of a full rebuild.
Looking ahead, I don't mind if Flames ownership/puppet gm double down for the next 3 or 4 years before we look at a bona fide rebuild. Re-sign or trade upcoming ufa's for current assets while spending to the cap. I think 90% of this same lineup could have 110 points in the standings next year.
4 years from now we they will probably have little choice but tear it down and dump contracts (25% to 50% retained salaries).
