He wasn’t “just hired.” He’s been with the organization - and presumably above Treliving in the org chart - for almost 6 years.

I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable saying Maloney was above Tre on the org chart. It was always my understanding that Tre was the one who brought in Maloney.
