And when things like Peters came to light, it was pretty clear what was going to happen.

And then there’s the question of whether his rocky road will hinder his effectiveness. He seemed to be a great coach before all of this came to light, but how would you feel as a prospect going to a training camp with Q leading the show? It would undermine his trust with players and I don’t think he could ever steer a team through brick walls again.

Why not? Positive change can happen through education, especially through people like Sheldon Kennedy. Rehabilitating people like coach Q is exactly what the NHL needs. The first step is to acknowledge the problem and implement the steps to create that change. Absolutely coach Q won't be the same person when he comes back, but he will have changed and have the opportunity to set better practices and higher standards. As a coach he will just have to find new and better ways to provide a winning environment through building meaningful relationships. The NHL needs an opportunity to see that the strict steps they have taken and implemented have had a positive effect and that those involved will now be better equiped to ensure that all players feel safe, protected and respected. The time of hardcore coaches, players who are bullies with hurtful attitudes and practices is becoming a thing of the past. People make mistakes at all levels, so it is important that the people involved are rehabed and part of the solution since they have been there.
