When I went to see the D&D movie the theatre I was in was one of the "ScreenX" ones.. they say 270° of view, I thought it would be some kind of dome or something, but no they just have additional projectors that show extra wide content on the walls of the theatre.
Stupidest thing I've seen in a while. It only looks somewhat normal if you're in the middle, otherwise everything looks distracting and distorted. The 4 extra projectors throw off a ton more light which makes the main screen look washed out, worse than if they'd left the house lights on.
Fortunately it's only on for part of the movie.. unfortunately it's for the big action sequences.
As a gimmick I much prefer 3D over ScreenX and I don't really like 3D. Hopefully it dies a quick death. I didn't even choose the showing and theatre with ScreenX, somehow ended up there though.
