In November of 2016 I sat at the Saddledome through a 4-1 loss to the Rangers, watching the Flames drop to 5-10-1 on the season under Glen Gulutzan. It was so frustrating and demoralizing that I told myself I wouldn't go back to the Dome until Gulutzan wasn't the coach anymore. I sat there thinking to myself that I really need to start to prioritize other things and that being a Flames fan probably wasn't going to fulfill me the way I wanted. It was honestly a truly depressing game to be at and I sat in my seat mad the whole time. I used to put a lot of my time and energy into being a fan of the team, and promised myself that night, no more.
I caved later that year against my better judgment and went to Game 4 against the Ducks to watch the Flames get swept...
The next season I split my season tickets 3 ways and finally got rid of them for good in 2020.
Darryl coming back was the most excited I've been for this team since 17:21 of the third period in Game 2 against Colorado.
I think I'm done for a while, though. Dark times are ahead for the Flames and there are too many other things competing for my time and attention that don't make me sad/mad/frustrated.
