The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation has learned in recent days through the media that there was a potential connection between the Chinese government and a 2016 pledge of $200,000 to be received by the Foundation.
As an independent, non-partisan charity, ethics and integrity are among our core values and we cannot keep any donation that may have been sponsored by a foreign government and would not knowingly do so.
In light of these recent allegations, the Foundation has refunded to the donor all amounts received with respect to the donation pledge.

The president and CEO would not lie and make a false statement would she? Or sounds like the intention was to refund for political expedience and preservation, only to find that the initial cheque had critical issues and should never have been accepted and that the reveal of potential illegal activities would be far far worse? Hence the mass resignation to get away from this stink bomb as quickly as possible?
Also a friendly historical reminder that our dear friends at CBC reported back in Jan 2016 about Liberals removing accountability and audit of charity political activities, and phrased it as a good thing to undo Harper's evil regime going after poor charities that could have included the Trudeau Foundation. Those audits ended up causing the removable of charitable status to 5 charities out of a couple of dozen, but that's merely a footnote

A few months later a chinese businessman would make a substantial donation, and donations to the Trudeau foundation (with no affiliation to Trudeau at all) would significantly increase.
Of course the person who accepted this 2016 cheque seems to have been Morris Rosenberg, the foundation CEO at the time, who coincidentally also just recently spearheaded the election foreign interference inquiry that found no wrongdoing or issues.
Nothing to see here folks, here is a [insert whataboutism] to divert attention.
