The Flames cannot continue to extend players to massive deals that will be in effect in their 30’s. Teams that do that enter painful half measure rebuilds and gif themselves on the treadmill of either first round fodder to maybe picking 9-10th overall at best.
They are married to Kadri, Huberdeau, and Weegar. Hanifin and Lindholm will be 27 and 29 when their new deals kick in. I think they need to make the prudent decision and retool the team with these 2 as key trade chips. The move to acquire them was the key move in retooling the team after the disappointing 3 years after the second round run in 2015. Hanifin has been a solid 2-3 D who can put up 40+pt years. Lindholm has been a top line W/C for all 5 of his years here. Goal scoring is down but he still got his 40+ assists.
These guys should be packaged for youth or draft capital. This team needs to be retooled.
