Through Budget 2023, Travel Alberta will receive $10 million over two years to develop environmentally sustainable year-round experiences in regions outside of Alberta’s most popular destinations. Funding will be used to increase awareness of and visitation to lesser-known tourism destinations across Alberta that have a high potential for growth.

I had a good laugh when I read this. Why? Well, about a month ago in Canmore I was at the Nordic Centre and the parking was half full of Alberta Parks trucks. I talked to one of the guys, and they were in Canmore for a week having their yearly conference. I thought it was pretty ridiculous they'd choose Canmore to do this, given the cost of staying in tourist town, but I guess that's not their money paying for it.
I even said to my family at the time "why wouldn't they choose a smaller town that is absolutely dead and could use the economic boost in hotels and restaurants? Why choose one of the most expensive, busiest town in the province for this?" Just careless decisions I guess. So it's pretty funny to see that juxtaposed with this announcement.
