But you know what bugs me? Our GM gets a lot of credit for being a stable hand and learning from his mistakes. Really? Perhaps his biggest mistake is winning bidding wars for high priced, old UFA's.

Out of the gates he needlessly signs Mason Raymond for three years when a short term deal would have done. He is forced to buy him out.
So then what? He signs Brouwer for four years! Buys him out after two years.
So then what does he do? He signs James Neal for 5 years!! Wants to buy him out after a year, ownership doesn't let him so he is forced to trade him for quite possibly the biggest boat anchor contract in the league.
A year before that contract is off the books, he wins the bidding war for 32 year old Nazem Kadri coming off a career, outlier season, signing him for 7 years!! Losing a first round pick in the process.

The mistakes just get more and more costly. Each player is progressively older, signed for more dollars and more term. And each one signed after a career season or in most cases, a value inflating playoff run.

He has had some good signings mixed in but there is an obvious pattern here.

Hopefully Kadri is enough of a competitor that he commits to turning things around next year.
Those are the 4 contracts I also have as being massive misses for Tre and I honestly didn’t like any of them the day they were announced.

There are so many things I like about Tre but he really has continually set us back with those moves, the last two especially.
