I also understand that it isn't nearly as easily consumed in the format it's given to us -- the Federal report you linked is nice and easy to find all the information you want without hopping between umpteen bloody PDFs -- but it's just too many years out of date to really be compelling.

I mean even with just a cursory clicking around, you can see the CPS report showing Violent Crime is down 2% over the 5 year trend, and that's not even per capita.
