When you weave in the policing discussion, the tax discussion gets extra funny.
The UCP reduces the amount of funding to cities like Calgary, which means they have to either increase taxes to make up the difference or reduce things like policing. This creates one of two problems, which the UCP then pretends to fix by temporarily knocking a few cents off a litre of gas and promising to hire more police officers.
The UCP is responsible for higher personal taxes and worse services, give half assed promises and gestures that don’t begin to fix the problem they created, and yet people still view them as the economic conservative/tough on crime type of party and rant about sole city councils and the high tax NDP. Hilarious.
