This is one of those weird deadline day deals that makes some other teams look dumb. Both guys acquired for basically nothing, here's how they rank among other deadline-ish acquisitions. Keep in mind I'm only including everyone else that was acquired using a first or second round pick, so at significant cost to their team:
Forwards
Tarasenko (NYR): 7 G, 9 A, 16 P
Niederreiter (WPG): 6 G, 4 A, 10 P
Kane (NYR): 5 G, 5 A, 10 P
Meier (NJD): 6 G, 3 A, 9 P
Bertuzzi (BOS): 3 G, 6 A, 9 P
Domi (DAL): 2 G, 4 A, 6 P
N. Ritchie (CGY): 4 G, 1 A, 5 P
O' Reilly (TOR): 3 G, 2 A, 5 P (in 8 games, then injured)
Hathaway (BOS): 3 G, 2 A, 5 P
Eller (COL): 3 G, 1 A, 4 P
Granlund (PIT): 1 G, 3 A, 4 P
Jeannot (TBL): 1 G, 3 A, 4 P
Greenway (BUF): 3 G, 0 A, 3 P
Defensemen
Orlov (BOS): 3 G, 11 A, 14 P
Sandin (WAS): 1 G, 12 A, 13 P
Ekholm (EDM): 3 G, 8 A, 11 P
Stecher (CGY): 2 G, 4 A, 6 P
Gavrikov (LAK): 1 G, 5 A, 6 P
Chychrun (OTT): 2 G, 3 A, 5 P
McCabe (TOR): 1 G, 2 A, 3 P
Hronek (VAN): 0 G, 1 A, 1 P (in 4 games, then injured)
Schenn (TOR): 0 G, 0 A, 0 P
Other observations are that the Jeannot trade was as ridiculously dumb as everyone thought (at least so far) and Toronto's defense shuffle doesn't really look great, with Sandin performing nicely in Washington so far.
