Not sure who’s saying what but he never weaseled out of Calgary. He played his hand and let the Flames know his intentions that he was not going to re-sign with the Flames. He clearly always had intentions of leaving Calgary the moment he signed the bridge deal. This doesn’t make him a bad guy as this was his right to take control of his situation. Anything he said in front of a microphone as a Flame was simply to tell fans and management what wanted to hear while holding his cards close to his chest. You would almost swear he was coached by a parent that’s been through this in the past.
