I don't even see the motive for Tkachuk wanting to leave. Back in 2019, the team won the West and he finished with a career year. He lead the team in scoring the next season, had his best playoff performance and the Flames beat the Jets in the play in round.

He subsequently got injured in the Dallas series, but as everyone remembers, he looked pretty invested in the team up in the press box. After 2021, his tone had completely changed though, even Darryl talked about how sorry he felt for Tkachuk during that season.
Treliving had no choice. He didn’t have cap space for a longer deal.
