If you believe the gossip, Dion “had to go” because of friction in the room. Perhaps he was given the choice as to where he’d be traded.
The one area Sutter wasn’t great in was drafting. Was it 7 drafts he was in charge of? Produced 3 or 4 players of note?

The eye for talent is also related to drafting. The Flames drafting was terrible in those years. I don't pin that all on Sutter, but I can't remember the Flames being better at drafting than with Treliving (not that it's a high bar).
