Personally I'm glad to see his first year is burned regardless so the asset is secured and that two year "worry" can be put to bed for those that were worried.

IMO this contract is better way to go. He's less likely to have played his way into a huge contract in 2 years vs 3 years and he will not be eligible for an offer sheet in 2 years. Not that it's a huge risk but it would be a tool for him and his agent to squeeze more money out of the Flames on his 2nd contract.
