It's kind of a crap situation that we almost have to sign Coronato just because he's an NCAA player and we don't want that flight risk if he plays a 3rd year. If Coronato chose the CHL route, it'd almost be a certainty based on how we've developed our prospects for the last decade that he'd be in the AHL for at least one or two seasons.

Take Zary for example. A 1st rounder a year before Coronato, in his 2nd season in the AHL and putting up close to PPG numbers (57pts in 64gp).
Why don't we "throw him in, give him a game, don't play him on the bottom line, give him good linemates and get him some experience". I don't think anybody can say that Coronato deserves a shot in the NHL over Zary at this point. He'll probably draw in because "reasons", but it definitely will not be merit based.

As an aside, it seems like Coronato's entire line (Farrell and Laferriere) signed ELC's with their NHL teams. Will be interesting to see how they all pan out relative to each other the next few years. Surprisingly, Coronato has the lowest PPG of the three players while being the highest drafted.
Well the situation itself is a bit different, Coronato cannot play in the AHL so his only shot is NHL or sit out and gain nothing but visual experience and being around the team which isnt a bad thing.

Pelletier got a shot, did well but like most have speculated now he's out because of a headshot he took a few games ago. Its not reported, but its widely speculated by most so he cannot play either way. Pelletier himself also reached out and was happy to see him sign/join the team, I doubt he's MAD that Coronato might get some games...

I don't think you take Duehr out, the guy has more heart and soul than 3/4 of the team and has done quite well and could be here a long time. But you can keep him and take off any of Lucic, Lewis, Ritchie on the 4th line and let him play full time. I would like if they did honestly.

Zary should have been given a shot, he once again is top 15 in scoring and has proven he's a great 200ft player in the AHL as one of the younger guys. But with both Pelletier and Duehr up, they need him on the farm to finish strong. Don't get me wrong, I'd certainly like for the Flames to reward him with a callup and at least one game though.

Phillips is absolutely done with this organization, its a shame but its the truth. With how he's been handled when called up, coupled with the fact he's a UFA after this year I'd bet he's all but moving on so its non issue for me.
