There were signs that Florida was going to part ways with Huberdeau regardless. They apparently delayed contract extension talks even though Huberdeau's agent was trying to initiate them. I think Florida realized after his inability to move up a gear in the playoffs, he wasn't someone to invest in for another 8 years at a superstar level salary, especially given his age. When the opportunity to get Tkachuk came up, I doubt they thought twice about it.
