The reason Tkachuk isn't a Flame today isn't because the fanbase, or even the organization soured on him.
The fanbase still loved him and his family last season during the season and playoffs.
The organization was still likely willing to give him the same $84M deal that Huberdeau got, and he likely would have eventually been captain.
It was Tkachuk that decided he didn't want to be a Flames player anymore. And honestly I think that narrative is being overlooked now. The org didn't choose to cut ties with him, he wanted to leave.

100% agree. If it was the coach, Covid restrictions, weather, organization, city, country, we will never know. He went to a warm climate, tax haven, where there were no pandemic restrictions and a good team.
Personally when Tkachuk said he wanted out I was far less surprised than when Gaudreau left and I thought they were both going to bail.
I still think the reason people do not hate Tkachuk for it is because of the deal we got from Florida. Gaudreau paralyzed the team through draft weekend to leave us for Columbus. Many of us felt betrayed and angry being left for nothing. I think many were surprised the Flames had 5-6 teams to work with and were able to get multiple star players and futures back when the team had their back to the wall.
