If the Flames had any foresight they would try to gets as many assets in the 06 and 07 birth years (2024 and 2025 draft) and then try to sign those assets longterm in 28/29. If they are good enough maybe you are Stanley Cup borderline competitive again in 2027.
In my mind it is almost irrelevant who you build around in 2024-2026 because this team is not a Stanley Cup contender.
But since being partially competitive is the goal, that will not happen.
Trade Lindholm, Backlund, Toffoli, Tanev, Hanifin and Zadorov for young assets in the next 10 months.
trade Mangiapane after next season, along with Markstrom if he has any value for young assets.
Keep Anderson, Kadri and Huberdeau.
